Visitors from Mongolia

A group of visitors from Mongolia visited the Centre of Polymer Systems on Wednesday 8 February 2023. The mission was organized by Caritas Czech Republic, which also operates in Mongolia.

With funding provided by the project entitled “Sustainable Plastic Recycling in Mongolia” supported, among others, by the European Commission, Caritas Czech Republic organized a study trip for representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises active in the field of plastic recycling. The aim was to get acquainted with well-tried procedures and examples of good practice in this field, and that in the Czech Republic and also in Germany. Waste management is one of the key problems in Mongolia due to urbanization, industrialization and increased consumption. Employees of Mongolian recycling companies often lack knowledge of well-tried and modern procedures. A new waste law was passed in 2017; however, sustainable solutions have not been developed and implemented as yet. A national strategy and an action plan for waste management were adopted, highlighting the need to ensure proper management of solid waste, to strive for application of environmentally-friendly technologies and approaches, to inspire the general public to change their behaviour and adopt the 3R principles, and to increase the social responsibility of citizens and businesses. The visitors were guided by Prof. Vladimír Sedlařík, Director of the CPS, who showed them around the Centre, all laboratories and the technology equipment hall; afterwards, they discussed the options for future cooperation.
