On December 01, 2020, Dr. Tomáš Sáha was officially appointed Director of the Footwear Research Centre.

“Nowadays, the Footwear Research Centre already works in several basic directions that meet its goals. They involve cooperation with small or beginning entrepreneurs, as well as with large manufacturers in the area of footwear. We focus on the issue of utility properties of today´s and future functional materials with help of an accredited shoe testing laboratory, in which we are able to perform tests of physical and mechanical properties of shoe materials, ” says the director of the Centre, Dr. Tomáš Sáha.

Further, a wide range of requirements is handled through projects, such as the demand of new and innovative technologies in the processing of footwear materials, design of new functional parts of footwear, construction, appearance and design. “The projects are successfully solved thanks to a strong base with the support of the Centre for Polymer Systems and talented designers. They are able to create specific design(s), graphic drawing documentation, 3D visualization and, last but not least, functional samples. A well-equipped 3D laboratory with several 3D printers plays also a big role in this area, ” adds Tomáš Sáha.

Acquisition and implementation of international projects is also significant in the activities of the Footwear Research Centre. The EUROPEAN NETWORK FOR HEALTHY AND FUNCTIONAL FOOTWEAR project, for example, which was successfully submitted in November last year, involves 34 partners from 18 countries.

The Footwear Research Centre is undoubtedly a unique research unit ready to face new challenges in the field of footwear.
