Students of Shoe Design Have New Laboratories in the Footwear Research Centre

Students of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications, namely of the Shoe Design studio, will have an opportunity to enjoy new footwear laboratories situated on the premises of the Footwear Research Centre at the University Institute of TBU from the start of this semester onwards. The laboratories previously used were located at the Faculty of Technology, in rooms not meeting the current requirements. As agreed upon between the Faculty of Technology and the FMC, new laboratories were built on the premises of the Footwear Research Centre. The interconnection between research and classes will acquaint students of design with practical requirements for the production of contemporary footwear to a much greater extent. The aim is to prepare students for individual production of footwear in small specialized companies that will be created on the European market. In the Centre, students will get acquainted with traditional and new types of footwear materials, in particular with new types of technologies based on the transfer of foot images to a 3D printer. The shoe workshop will be led by Ing. Martina Černeková, PhD., assisted by Radka Štefková from the FMC.

In 2021, the Faculty of Technology is expected to launch a Bachelor’s programme entitled Technology and Shoe Construction, to be taught on the premises of the Footwear Research Centre. Thus, a sufficient number of graduates contributing to a revival of the shoemaking industry could be produced over the next few years.
