Professor Michal Sedlačík becomes the new Director of the University Institute

As of 03 September 2024, prof. Ing. Michal Sedlačík, Ph.D. (*1983) becomes the Director of the University Institute (UNI), appointed by prof. Mgr. Milan Adámek, Ph.D., the Rector of Tomas Bata University (TBU), following a standard selection process.

A Faculty of Technology graduate, Professor Sedlačík participated in the establishment and development of the Centre of Polymer Systems as the main research unit of the University Institute, where Sedlačík also served as CPS Deputy Director from 2017 to 2020. Professor Sedlačík has been conducting creative activities in the field of smart materials, electromagnetic compatibility and rheology of dispersion systems. He obtained his PhD at the TBU’s Faculty of Technology, where he also subsequently habilitated in Technology of Macromolecular Substances. In 2023 he successfully passed the procedure for appointment as a professor in Surface Engineering at the University of Pardubice. He has been involved in many projects both nationally and internationally, funded by CSF, MIT, TACR, MEYS and others.

“I am looking forward to this challenge; I have accepted it with all responsibility. As a university department, the University Institute is a leading research constituent of the Tomas Bata University in Zlín. My goal is to streamline UNI’s operations and management as well as internal and external communication, reorganise UNI’s structure, and set up a transparent system for evaluating the staff. I also plan to establish a central project department, through which we can envisage more significant involvement in international projects and more intense cooperation with industries in the field,” says Professor Michal Sedlačík, the new UNI Director.
